AEJ 2On March 1 organizations from across the country gathered in Miami FL to talk about the school-to-prison-pipeline and how to build a youth movement. Two members from NC attended, including Monserrat Matehuala and Mathama Bility. Mathama, a graduate of the Youth Organizing Institute wrote about her experience.

AEJ 1 “Attending the the Alliance for Education Justice’s conference in Miami this past weekend was an empowering and inspirational experience. During my three days in Miami, I was able to engage with young people from across the nation who are actively working to improve their communities. The conference was an opportunity for organizations to update other members on their work. During the conference, we also made decisions on two proposals: the upcoming Freedom Summer and a national day of action in the Fall. As a new member of the Alliance, YOI was able to strengthen its relationship with other activist organizations–building community and unity across state lines. It was a tremendous experience. I am so happy to have attended!”
