IMG_0365On Saturday Feb. 22, over 100 community members met to discuss issues of push out and policing in the public schools. The members varied from students and parents to concerned citizens. There was a short documentary screening hosted by Advocates for Children Services and a post discussing facilitated by the Youth Organizing Institute, NC HEAT, and EJA. The highlight of the event were the breakout sessions that included youth and students from Wake and Durham county schools. Each shared their stories of policing, profiling, and push out they are experiencing from elementary to high school. The youth then reported back to the rest of the members present, voicing their need for support as they move forward to share their stories with the general public.
